now

the first twenty went by
without a shred of remorse
or an inkling of temptation

yesterday
not so much

today was better
but i still had to pick up my pace
as i passed that isle in Wal-Mart

and in the fridge

the dog is lying
and i reach for the remote

will be my only drug
